Many of our students have poor communication skills, both written and spoken. This department seeks to improve these skills through practical exercises.
Students are encouraged to utilize theirt learning capabilities to the maximum. Apart from the traditional didactic modes of teaching, interactive lectures and participatory small group discussions are held with a tutor acting as a facilitator and providing maximum oppurtunity for students to express themselves. This learner centered approach encourages them to seek knowledge, not only from text-books, but also journals, and other learning resources. Problem-based community oriented learning and methodology is used in clinical teaching to make learning more relevant and contextual
The library is open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm Monday to Friday, and 8:00 am to 1:00 pm on Saturday.
There are two set of courses: A compulsory english course that all students must take and pass, and an english improvement class. Students for the improvement class are identified by a test assesing their english language ability. They are then taken through a series of specially designed exercises.

In addition to textbooks, a large number of local and international subscription journal are available. There are several reference volumes as well as a wide variety of recently published books covering various topics in each of the basic and special medical sciences, as well as subjects of general interests. Two qualified librarians are there to guide students in makeing the best use of available library resources.
